  • It is worth reading HMRC’s latest Agent Update . This bi-monthly publication contains a useful round-up of recent tax developments official publications and consultations as well as reminders about changes taking place in 2016/17.

 

  • The decision in Laghmani highlights the fact that the clients running a business must be able to explain their figures and show that all sales have been declared to counter any challenge by HMRC particularly if the figures are not as might be expected.

 

  • Make sure that staff and clients are aware of HMRC’s digital aspirations. Why not hold occasional workshops or write newsletters to discuss what is happening and explain how using digital technology might help a client’s business.

 

  • If a client has cash flow problems it may be worth checking whether the timing of invoices can be delayed legitimately...
