New minimum wage rates

Increased amounts apply from October 2016

The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills has accepted the Low Pay Commission’s recommendations for increasing the national minimum wage rates from next October.

The new rates will be as follow:

  • the adult hourly rate (for 21-24 year olds) will increase from £6.70 to £6.95;
  • the rate for 18 to 20 year olds will increase from £5.30 to £5.55;
  • the rate for 16 to 17-year-olds will increase from £3.87 to £4; and
  • the apprentice rate will increase from £3.30 to £3.40.

The accommodation offset will increase from £5.35 to £6.

The national living wage (£7.20) applies to workers aged 25 and over from 1 April.
