Completion of self-assessment online tax returns.
Some 10.39 million self-assessment tax returns were completed by the 31 January deadline, HMRC has announced. That is more than 92% of the total returns expected, and 150,000 more than last year.
A record 9.24 million taxpayers used HMRC’s online self-assessment service to calculate and pay the tax owed.
The busiest day was 29 January when 513,271 returns were received, equivalent to 21,386 an hour. The busiest time was between 2pm and 3pm, with 50,358 taxpayers clicking ‘submit’. More than 385,000 returns were filed on 31 January.
