A cautionary Christmas tale of taxation for our troubled times.

I was on my way to work a few days ago – there was more news about parliamentary expenses in the paper that day – claims for less than a pound and first class flights and lavish hotels. I was probably thinking that there’d be more about parliamentary tax affairs next. But enough of that. As I strolled from the station I was feeling so happy that there were only a few days left until Christmas. Well I was happy until I began to tick off in my mind all those little tasks that we face in the run-up to the festive holiday. Have I prepared and filed all of those 31 March 2015 corporation tax returns? How many personal self-assessment tax returns are there left to prepare before 31 January? More importantly for what proportion of those tax returns have I yet to receive all the information...
