  •  Draw your staff’s attention to the “Flag it up” campaign to raise their awareness of the signs of money laundering and ensure that your firm is compliant with the regulations that address this. These can be found on GOV.UK .

 

  •  It may be worth pointing out to clients that the courts are unlikely to allow a second bite at the cherry if judicial review proceedings were lost. In Shiner v CRC this was despite further evidence and other differences between the review and tribunal hearing.

 

  • At least in cases where the taxpayer is not going to the ultimate client’s home or place of business the reinforcement of Samadian by the case of Dr David Jones makes it difficult to justify a deduction for travel expenses from home. Identify clients affected and explain the position.
