  • How well do clients understand the new pension reforms? It might be worth putting together a factsheet on what the changes are with emphasis on the importance of taking advice before making decisions. Point out that the government’s Pension Wise service is only guidance.  
 
  • In light of the decision against the taxpayer in Dr D Jones review the travel expense claims of self-employed clients to check whether they are claiming too much – or too little.    
 
  • Public sector VAT recovery rates vary according to the nature of the organisation so ensure that clients – such as hospitals and charities – are recovering the appropriate VAT. Take steps to correct the situation if the claims require adjustment.
