- The latest report from the Office of Tax Simplification (OTS) is on employment status makes several suggestions on how the issue could be improved in the short and long term. Take time to read it and send your comments to the OTS.
- The VAT DIY housebuilder’s scheme was the subject of Palau and Loughran (TC4251). HMRC refused the claim and imposed a penalty but the tribunal said that because the form had been completed honestly and accurately there was no ground for a penalty. Bear this in mind if clients are subjected to a penalty.
- Tax practitioners must ensure that they are also fully compliant with non-tax requirements that may apply to them. For example professional indemnity insurance money laundering regulations and professional standards.
