Fit and proper person
HMRC have introduced new legislation relating to the fit and proper status of scheme administrators. From 1 September 2014, where the department believes the scheme administrator is not a fit and proper person to be the scheme administrator, the Revenue can refuse to register a new pension scheme or de-register an existing registered pension scheme.

FATCA
HMRC have published guidance on reporting Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) information and have updated the UK FATCA guidance. The notes supersede the 28 February 2014 version.
Gambling tax
Guidance is available to non-UK operators on how to apply for HMRC approval of a fiscal or administrative UK representative as part of the gambling tax reform registration process.
Westminster
Media reports are correct: HMRC are holding a service for their staff in Westminster Abbey on 23 September. A spokesperson said, “A shared sense of purpose is key to boosting staff morale. The ongoing improvement to the quality of service we provide to the public will be supported by the recognition at this event of the vital role HMRC people play in society. It is for followers of all faiths and none.” He added that the department is “not paying a penny for the use” of the abbey.
