HMRC OFFICERS CAN be full of surprises. Clients are often amazed at the level of information the HMRC holds on them. It does not matter how much practitioners try to educate clients they can still harbour a desire to withhold information even from their advisers.
HMRC have access to numerous information sources so it should not be a surprise when they come up with a real gem. When you are in a meeting with the HMRC Officer and your client and that very thing happens the effect can be devastating. No matter how well you prepare your client for the meeting there is always the possibility that the Officer will come up with a killer-blow.
