PAYE returns on time from 6 April 2014 to avoid potential in-year penalties in 2014/15, said the Revenue.
The medium by which an employer views the new messages will depend on how it make its real-time submissions. Users of electronic data interchange (EDI) will receive the alerts through the same EDI channel.
Some commercial software will display the messages – which can also be read through HMRC's PAYE desktop viewer and by logging in to PAYE online services, then selecting the generic notifications from the notice summary section.
Employers who receive email alerts for existing notifications, such as tax codes, will now be sent an additional alert about pending messages from the new Revenue initiative, which will issue alerts about late payment and non-filing from next month.
