A UK domiciled taxpayer works overseas on a basis of one month on/one month off. Payment was made under a tax equalisation scheme, but latterly an offshore service company has been used

My client was born in UK and for the past 10 years he has worked with an American drilling company.  At one stage our client was paying his UK taxes under a tax equalisation programme; however in recent years an offshore managed service trust has dealt with his tax affairs.

From what we have been told it appears that this has been under a scheme which is now under review by HMRC. We have been asked to act on his behalf from 6 April 2013 onwards.

Since April 2013 our client has been working in Thailand. He works one month on and one month off and will be paid £8 000 each month ie a total of £96 000 per year.

Our client returns to the UK on his month off where his wife and family home are based. He would like to reduce...
