The Revenue has warned charities it is to stop accepting gift aid claims on outdated forms, following last year's introduction of new paperwork.
HMRC will phase out the use of the old-style documents over the coming months, having launched a revamped gift aid and tax repayment claims form R68(i) in March 2011.
Claims made on the soon-to-be-obsolete forms tend to encounter difficulties more often than those via the replacement and take longer to process, warned the department, which is in the process of contacting organisations that submit the old R68(i).
It is reminding charities they should use the new online form for future repayment claims. Current claims on outmoded documents will be honoured, but future submissions will be returned unprocessed.
HMRC understand some charities and community amateur sports clubs are better acquainted with the old style forms, but the taxman points out that the new R68(i) instantly calculates the correct amount of gift aid to be claimed.
