'What is the point of a reminder service that arrives after the event?'

I would not imagine that we are the only ones but in the post yesterday (21 May 2012) and today we have received from HMRC a number of employer annual return reminders (AR1N) re the 2011/12 filing due on or before 19 May 2012.

All the reminders showed a date of issue of 29 April 2012 so quite why it has taken so long for them to be delivered is unclear. What is the point of having a reminder service that arrives after the event to which the reminder relates?

A notification to complete the P35 was sent out to all employers on 25 February. The letters you refer to are second reminders which have been going out in batches since the end of April to all employers who had not filed by then. The vast majority of...
