When asked to review Furnished Holiday Lettings – a Tax Guide my first thought was ‘is there enough for a whole book?’ As it happens there is.

As a relative newbie to the world of tax it was refreshing to be provided with the full story as to why the furnished holiday letting (FHL) rules were introduced in the first place with the author paying close attention to explaining the relevant case law.

In chapter 2 there is a useful account of the difference between property letting and trading. This is something that often appears to be straightforward at first glance but subsequently requires more careful deliberation of the badges of trade and the associated case law all of which are clarified succinctly here.

The author has taken a logical ‘first things first’ approach...
