This book is a good introduction to the mechanics of stamp duty land tax (SDLT) but to my mind (as a fellow author on this subject) is a little lacking in technical analysis.
One drawback is that I could find no indication of when the text is up to date to. In the fast-moving world of tax this could be a problem and as the author says SDLT's rules have been subject to regular revision during its short existence.
For a writer aiming to give a practical explanation of a complicated subject it is always difficult to know where to start. This book begins with an explanation of the old stamp duty rules and the transition from stamp duty to SDLT.
It is not until page 12 that the relevance of the transition is dealt with. As the book...
