The Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) has joined forces with, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), the UK's biggest accountancy group, to provide a new, advanced tax qualification.
The government has agreed to a bid from a consortium of organisations led by PwC and including the ATT, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, the Management Consultancies Association, the Financial Skills Partnership and the BPP law school.
The professional services higher apprenticeships programme will initially cover tax, auditing and management consulting. Employer will provide apprentices with a wage while the government covers all or part of the training costs.
Individials on the tax route will work towards newly developed qualifications on a credit framework designed to raise apprentices to the ATT professional standard.
It is expected apprentices will be a mix of school-leavers and college-leavers with good A-level marks or equivalent certificates, those who have completed advanced apprenticeships, and employees of participating firms.
The programme's stated aim is to deliver 1,500 apprenticeships by March 2015, divided among the tax, audit and management consulting. The first ones will begin in September 2012.
