Which areas of service should the Revenue prioritise for improvement? It is the aim of the ICAEW Tax Faculty to find out: the professional body has launched an online questionnaire to gather feedback from tax advisers throughout the UK.
The move follows the recent publication of the Treasury select sub-committee report Administration and Effectiveness of HMRC, which highlighted taxpayer dissatisfaction with the department’s service standards.
The short poll – it takes around three minutes to complete – invites respondents to prioritise up to five failings the taxman must earmark for immediate correction. All answers are submitted anonymously.
‘I believe it essential that HMRC start to see the service delivery problems from the perspective of taxpayers and agents, and that the best way to do that is for the department to follow the recommendation at paragraph 100 of the Treasury’s report,’ said Paul Aplin, chairperson of the Tax Faculty’s technical committee.
There is still time readers to take part in Taxation’s official response to the consultation document Establishing the Future Relationship Between the Tax Agent Community and HMRC, which closes on 16 September. It proposes a system of enrolment for advisers, who would be able to ‘self serve’ through the use of some of the Revenue’s online facilities.
