With regard to the withdrawal of child benefits from all families containing a higher-rate taxpayer and the affects this will have on disabled children, David Gauke reassured MPs that from January 2013 ‘disabled children may be eligible for disability living allowance, which provides additional universal financial support to those with disabilities. Disabled children and their families will continue to receive support through the provision of short breaks’.
He added that the special educational needs and disability green paper, due to be published soon, will set out proposals intended to improve the support system.
