I have a habit of reading tax books from cover to cover – but Tolley’s Tax Planning 2009-10 I read on a selective basis because there are almost 3 000 pages spread over 66 chapters written by more than 70 tax practitioners.

It is not a book that can be read in a hurry.

It explores a wide range of tax planning matters from the viewpoint of businesses investors employees trustees beneficiaries and charities making it a useful reference guide when faced with a specific tax problem.

It claims to be the most comprehensive tax planning guide available and I agree it covers a wide range of topics with some great detailed planning points.

The book includes tax planning topics from buying a company to year end tax planning for individuals and the alphabetical list of chapters...
