HMRC target firms operating ‘travel and subsistence schemes’

HMRC have announced that they are actively targeting non-compliant umbrella companies and other ‘employment businesses’ operating ‘travel and subsistence schemes’.

These purport to offer an over-arching employment contract enabling workers to claim tax relief on travel and subsistence expenses.

The Revenue will in due course report to ministers on whether further measures are needed.
