The subject of MPs’ salaries is always an interesting topic so it will come as no surprise that when MEPs’ pay came up for discussion at the beginning of the eleventh sitting various committee members had plenty to say about it. Clause 56 ‘MEPs’ pay allowances and pensions under European Parliament Statute’. In brief this gives tax relief against UK tax for the Communities tax that the EU is to levy on MPs’ salaries and benefits.
