Normally in Taxation we write a lot of words about tax and illustrate the words with some numbers.

This article is the other way round: it is mainly numbers illustrated with a few words.

Charles Pascoe Tax Principal in the London Tax Group of BDO sent me some examples that he had discussed with a policy adviser at HMRC following the Budget 2009 announcement in BN13 that the three-year carry back for losses incurred in 2008-09 announced in PBR 2008 was to be extended to cover 2009-10 as well.
