HMRC have announced that Simon Bowles MA, FCA, FCT has joined the department to fill the vacant position of chief finance officer.

Mr Bowles has worked in a number of senior financial positions for businesses including the RAC, industrial gas supplier the BOC Group, and non-woven fabrics provider Fiberweb.

He began his career with Arthur Andersen & Co, after graduating from Trinity College, Dublin, with a degree in economics.

The Revenue’s CEO, Leslie Strathie, welcomed the appointment: ‘I am delighted that Simon Bowles is joining us in such a vital role.

‘[His] experience and knowledge gained from the strategic financial management positions he has held in a wide range of complex service-provider organisations will be of enormous benefit to HMRC.’

The department's previous finance chief was Phillip Moore, who held the post on an interim basis and left in July last year.
