It has been pointed out that when you have filed a self assessment with a repayment in it, the client account screen shows:
Bank repayment: £xxxxx
Date: dd/mm/yy
Sent to: client’s name
Unfortunately, the date is not the date that the repayment was sent to the bank, but the date that the tax officer preparing the refund hopes that the BACS payment will be sent to the bank.
In one client’s case the screen showed 17 December, but the actual release date was 14 January.
Apparently, HMRC have a different screen where the narrative against ‘date’ is something like ‘prepared for issue’.
Because the client had died and the refund was going to the executor, there were intervening security checks.
