HMRC have launched a series of online videos to assist new and small firms with a variety of tax matters.
First, there are ten ‘bite-sized’ clips that offer overviews on a range of issues, including setting up in business, keeping records, income tax for the self-employed, National Insurance and VAT.
The video shorts – fronted by TV presenter Dan Snow, son of broadcasting veteran Peter ‘Swingometer’ Snow – are available from BusinessLink.gov.uk, and they include links to further online information and assistance.
Also on the Business Link site is the Revenue's new series called The Start-Up Diaries, which follow three entrepreneurs - Ruth, Nick and Hannah - as they launch their own businesses.
They will explain in their own words what it’s like to go it alone. An introduction to the series and episode one are both now available.
Finally, a free PDF guide for new and small firms has been provided to complement the new videos. Entitled Giving Your Business the Best Start with Tax, it covers of the many same areas as the online films.
HMRC's latest online offerings follow the recent addition to the department’s own site of an eight-minute podcast on the new compliance checks regime, which comes into effect in April.
