More than 60,000 businesses have agreed Time to Pay tax arrangements worth in excess of £1 billion.
The number of firms now registered with the HMRC scheme is three times larger than the figure announced by the taxman a month ago.
Time to Pay is run by the Revenue’s business payment support service (BPSS), which was launched by the Chancellor in November’s Pre-Budget Report to offer support to businesses needing extra time to settle their tax bills.
The financial secretary to the Treasury, Stephen Timms claimed he was ‘delighted’ that the BPSS was ‘proving such a huge success’.
‘This service is delivering the kind of tangible support that business needs at this time. I would urge any [firms] anticipating or experiencing difficulties paying their tax to call the helpline and get a quick response tailored to their specific needs’, he said.
