From 1 April 2008, the Adjudicator’s Office has taken on 1,106 tax credit cases, said Paul Goodman in reply to a written question.
She closed 984 cases, of which 220 were taken on that year.
In respect of overpaid tax credits, 575 cases have been settled by the Adjudicator’s Office with some or all of the overpayment written off, £1,532,272 in total.
In the same period, consolatory payments have been made in 666 of all the tax credit cases seen by the Adjudicator.
In addition, she recommended HMRC pay £108,980 in compensation.
