Taxpayers can now pay their tax bills by direct debit

Taxpayers can now pay their tax bills by direct debit.

Those registered to use self assessment online, PAYE online for employers, or corporation tax online can set up direct debit payments online.

Take self assessment, for example: the direct debit can be set up for a single payment or as part of a monthly or weekly budget payment plan where taxpayers can make regular payments towards any future tax due.

In order to set up a direct debit, the taxpayer needs to log in to self assessment online, select ‘direct debit payment’ from the main menu and follow the on-screen links to complete a direct debit instruction.

HMRC advise that any direct debit payment created will not be visible online for up to 36 hours.

Visit the Revenue's dedicated web page for more details.
