Tax profession applauds John Whiting

Prominent figures in the tax industry have joined to applaud John Whiting, who has been awarded an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.

John, a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers, has been recognised for his contribution to public service in his capacity as a chartered tax adviser.

He is deeply involved with the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT), being a past president, a past chairman of its technical committee, and the current chairman of the organisation's management of taxes sub-committee.

He is also a member of the CIOT's Low Incomes Tax Reform Group (LITRG).

Recently inaugurated president Nick Goulding paid tribute to John, saying: 'On behalf of the CIOT, I would like to extend our congratulations… on this well deserved acknowledgement.

'This honour recognises the work [John] has done to raise the profile and standing of the tax profession and, especially, further the understanding of the UK tax system.

'John can take a complex tax issue and make it accessible to journalists, politicians and the public,' added Nick.

Taxation editor Mike Truman was equally complimentary: 'This recognition of John's service to the profession is richly deserved.

'He has been a leading figure in the tax world for many years, and his ability to cut straight to the heart of an issue and explain the key points clearly and simply is immensely valuable.

'He always makes the complex comprehensible, whether he is talking about the Budget on radio or TV, or representing the interests of advisers and their clients in negotiations with civil servants and government ministers.'
