JD Nightingirl ('JDN') proposes a unique suggestion as regard the involvement of tax counsel in responding to draft legislation that requires revision.

In my view however such an approach would be vastly more costly to the professional bodies (and thus to their members) than the current system. But that is not the main point I wanted to address.

Like JDN I echo Philip Fisher's Dear Dave letter and Mike Truman's comments about relations with HMRC. They are not lone voices at all so JDN's fear in this regard is unfounded. She asks if 'it is not time that the tax profession got together and stood up to publicly contest hasty and questionable legislation?'

I'm sorry that JDN seems either unaware of the extent to which the professional bodies do work together in this regard or that she disagrees with the approach they adopt when...
