Good news week?

25 March 2008 / Mike Truman
Issue: 4153 / Categories: Comment & Analysis , Residence & domicile , VAT
Always look on the bright side... MIKE TRUMAN searches for the silver lining in the grey and foggy cloud that was the Chancellor's 2008 Budget

KEY POINTS

  • Charity supplement will help until 2011
  • Simplification — sections abolished and a new small company review
  • Increased limits for VAT amendments
  • 100% capital allowances for most small businesses
  • Residence rules agree with recent cases

The media are known for being amongst the most cynical of observers and politicians certainly attract cynical responses from most people not just the media.

So it is hardly surprising that most responses to the Budget were rather jaundiced accusing the Chancellor of not really having anything to say but saying it at great and monotonous length.

However I managed at the end of my Comment piece two weeks ago to identify a couple of 'good news' items so I thought I would try and keep that positive outlook going.
