Capital gains tax proposals

Francesca Lagerberg of Grant Thornton UK LLP gave an overview of the recent capital gains tax proposals. The main immediate issue will be whether clients should 'bank' taper relief and/or indexation allowance.

Points in favour of triggering a gain before 6 April 2008 include securing the existing 10% rate (subject to all the qualifying conditions being satisfied); obtaining any available indexation relief; the possibility of implementing inheritance tax planning at the same time; the payment of the CGT liability by...
