How do they do it? Allison Plager talks to past medal winners about their CTA exam success

We British tend to be a modest lot. It's not the winning it's the taking part and when (rather if) we do win it's 'oh it was nothing I just got lucky'.

Modesty is an admirable trait but sometimes it is good to shout about success.

So here are two of the medal and prize winners from the May 2007 sitting of the CTA examinations who Taxation 2 managed to persuade share their thoughts on their success with us.

Not surprisingly practising exam questions played an important.

Overall success

Winner of the Institute medal for best overall performance across all four CTA papers and the LexisNexis Butterworths prize for the candidate with the highest total marks was Julia Ferguson of Coutts & Co. Shock is what she modestly felt at her success.

She says that 'winning a prize was never my goal...
