The trouble with tax is that it is everywhere. It refuses to be ignored. Buy a new pair of shoes and you pay VAT on them. Visit a stately home pay for entry and there is gift aid to think about. Even car number plates are not immune … how often have you converted the letters into a tax?

The point is that tax is all consuming which means that tax jobs are not confined to professional practice. Companies of all sorts and sizes from ICI down to the local bollard making factory need tax experts.
