ALLISON PLAGER discovers what drew Andrew Jupp to a career in tax

Music science and tax may not seem to be the most obvious combination but these are three loves of Andrew Jupp who was recently appointed head of tax at Tenon.

Andrew says that tax was probably his 'third career'. After completing his A levels he became a 'semi-professional musician for a few years' touring the UK and Europe as a classical and jazz clarinet player. After a while he decided to become a student again so he went to university.

Here he got his degree and PhD as a research scientist in technical agriculture. Although he loved the work he was also interested in the business side of agriculture so trained as a chartered accountant. Andrew 'never expected to stay in the accountancy profession' and soon realised that audit was not for him but he was attracted to tax. This suited...
