MALCOLM COUCH and BRIAN JOHNSON explain recent airborne developments on the Isle of Man.

Key points * The introduction of the 'New Manx Vehicle'. * The island's new aircraft register. * A summary of Isle of Man tax provisions. * Recent corporate changes on the island. * UK tax considerations.

A NEW FORM of company was introduced in the Isle of Man from 1 November 2006. The company often referred to as the 'New Manx Vehicle' or 'NMV' is effectively a hybrid of the best characteristics of the international business companies regime of the British Virgin Islands and traditional concepts of Isle of Man company law and results in a vehicle which is legally robust yet flexible cost-effective and easy to administer. The NMV regime runs in parallel with the existing Isle of Man company law and companies formed under that older system can easily be converted into NMVs.
