No names no pack drill?

We received a call this week from a reader who had spoken to an HMRC officer regarding a client's outstanding tax liability. When requested the officer refused to give his or her name to the accountant. This does not tend to foster good working relationships between the profession and HMRC but we did wonder whether in view of the passing of 'allocations' of work relating to particular individual taxpayers it was now HMRC policy for their officers to no longer provide their names.
When questioned on this topic HMRC were equally unhappy to learn of their officer's actions here and the Press Office have provided the following comments and information which may be of interest to any readers who unfortunately find themselves in a similar situation.
