I have read the latest article by Richard Curtis ('Crossroads?', Taxation, 27 July 2006, page 451) with great interest, as I have previous articles and correspondence on the issue. I heartily endorse his comments in virtually all respects, and thought I might put my own feelings and experience to you, for what they are worth.

I was an Inspector of Taxes for some eleven years and then left to join a firm of local accountants. I subsequently set up my own business in 1994 which I have been running since.
