MIKE TRUMAN explains how Taxation needs your help to recreate the full text of the interventions letters being sent out by HMRC.

DO YOU WIKI? No it's not illegal immoral and nor does it affect your waistline. It's the new online way of building a source of information — and I thought it would be the best way to handle the Interventions Register.

Story so far

Let's recap. HMRC are sending out letters to your clients asking them to take part in a pilot exercise trialling new ways of ensuring that taxpayers are making accurate returns without opening a full enquiry.

Samples of the letters have now been made available via the websites of the professional bodies; they are available both at the CIOT website and on the ICAEW Tax Faculty's pages. The categories of letter are:

  • CC — correction challenge where HMRC believe from information they hold that income is underdeclared for example missing bank or building society
    interest.
