RICHARD CURTIS surveys the satisfaction of HMRC staff with the department's functions.

IN NOVEMBER 2005 HMRC surveyed 10 000 staff throughout the department. Apparently 70% of those asked to participate did so and the results have recently been published in OneHMRC the in-house magazine and are reproduced in the Table below. HMRC say that senior managers from the Executive Committee 'will look at overall results to establish common themes and things to concentrate on'. Business units within HMRC should also benchmark their own results against the departmental ones.
The results of last year's survey are shown in brackets as a comparison although HMRC state that a change must be 3% or more in the survey before it is statistically significant. In that case it seems that although staff satisfaction that they are treated with fairness and respect and that they can balance home and work commitments has improved their pride in working for HMRC ...
