Small practitioner forum

LexisNexis Butterworths already provide books, magazines, training, and software for the small practitioner. We are now starting a forum specifically for small practitioners, which will be run three times per year, to address the changing needs of this market. We are particularly keen to make sure that small practitioners are represented in our decision-making and product development processes.
The first event will take place at our boardroom in Halsbury House, Chancery Lane, London, at 5.30 pm on 22 September. This will consist of a round-table discussion of various topics led by Mike Truman, Editor of Taxation magazine. Snacks and drinks will be provided, and there will be an informal networking opportunity following the main event in a local wine bar. Reasonable travelling expenses will be paid, and attendees will be given a voucher to redeem against the purchase of LexisNexis Butterworths products.
If you would be interested in attending, please contact Julia Burns on 020 7400 4634, or Chris Boulter on 020 7400 2509.

CTA Day

The Chartered Institute of Taxation is launching CTA Day on Tuesday 13 September by releasing 1,000 balloons in central London. The person who sends back the balloon that travelled the longest distance will receive a prize. The day is part of the 75th anniversary of the CIOT.
Peter Kempster, president of the CIOT, says: 'The range of events across the country reflects the fact that we are a national organisation, representing tax professionals everywhere. The panellists at the debate in London are of top calibre and will offer interesting insights into current arguments about tax and tax policy'.
Across the UK, CIOT branches are holding various events that include local schools competitions, one-day conferences and debates between politicians and tax experts.
A competition offers the opportunity to win a two-night stay in Boston generously provided by Tourism Massachusetts and the Bulfinch Hotel. The Savoy Hotel has kindly given afternoon tea for two as second prize. Entries can only be made through the CIOT website: www.tax.org.uk/ctaday, the aim being to encourage as many members of the public as possible to visit the CIOT's website to see what the CIOT offers.
