Advance corporation tax

The Chancellor was asked what had been the total cost to local government pension schemes resulting from the abolition of advance corporation tax relief on pension funds. Dr Alan Whitehead Under Secretary of State for Transport local government and the regions said that the estimated effect of the abolition of advance corporation tax was £130 million.

Upper limit
The Chancellor was asked how much money would be raised by removing the upper limit on National Insurance over one financial year. Dawn Primarolo replied that the estimated yield for 2002-03 would be £3.25 million.
