Answering yet another question about IR35 Dawn Primarolo said that it had been estimated that some 90 000 companies would be affected by the introduction of the new legisalation. She could not provide precise figures regarding the number of taxpayers but ever the opportunist happily took advantage of the chance to repeat the Government's reasoning behind the legislation namely 'to tackle avoidance of tax and National Insurance contributions through the use of personal services'.

Regeneration
Customs has estimated that each year some 10 000 properties will be converted for residential use and thereby benefit from the proposed reduced VAT rate of five per cent.
