The Chancellor was asked to supply the total cost to public funds arising from the implementation of IR35 and the handling of queries and appeals by affected businesses. Dawn Primarolo replied saying that the main extra activity undertaken by the Revenue in respect of IR35 was the 'provision of advice to taxpayers and their advisers'. This had been done by existing staff as part of their normal duties.
