With reference to the Readers’ Forum query Agent angst and its replies we too have experienced many similar difficulties when dealing with the Tax Credits Office (TCO). Problems may arise where claimants try to do their own annual renewals and mistakenly give incorrect figures.

In addition we all know that situations can arise where it is necessary to amend the previous or current year’s tax return due to new information being received an error being made or the tax return containing an estimate.

Where it has been necessary to amend a tax return the TCO has refused to revise a final tax credits award notice in the claimant’s favour in every case where we have asked it to do this.
