'A plot to slow down tax repayments?'

In April I received three HMRC self assessment statements of account.

All three were addressed to McKenzies - but where is the client’s name at the top as previously?

Is this now some further (unnecessary but devilish) HMRC practice that we now all have to contend with or is it a plot to slow down tax repayments?

The first statement reflected an apparent outstanding (tax) liability and had a payslip showing the client’s name.

However the second statement showed a four-figure tax overpayment – for someone – but nothing other than the unique taxpayer reference (UTR) was shown.

This meant that I had to check through the UTR list to identify my client and so in his interests I have now taken the appropriate action - but it’s all extra unnecessary work.
